Sigulda Day Trip from Riga
Medieval castles, ancient river valleys, and Latvia's wildest forest — all 50 minutes from Riga. The most rewarding day trip in the Baltics.
Why Sigulda Belongs on Every Latvia Itinerary
Sigulda sits at the heart of Gauja National Park — Latvia's oldest and largest protected area. The Gauja River has carved a valley up to 90 metres deep through sandstone cliffs, creating a landscape unlike anything else in the flat Baltic region.
Three medieval castles stand within walking distance of each other: Turaida, Sigulda Medieval Castle, and Krimulda. Each tells a different chapter of Latvian history, from the Livonian Order to the Swedish Empire to Soviet occupation.
Sigulda is also Latvia's adventure capital. The Olympic bobsled track at Sigulda Olympic Centre is open to visitors year-round — in summer as a wheeled bob, in winter on ice. The cable car across the Gauja valley offers the best aerial view in Latvia.
A private day trip means you set the pace. We can spend three hours on the castles and history, or combine them with a forest walk, a local lunch, and the bobsled. Nothing is fixed — we build the day around what interests you most.

Sigulda Day Trip — Common Questions
How far is Sigulda from Riga?
Sigulda is 50 kilometres from Riga — approximately 50 minutes by private car. We pick you up from your accommodation and return you at the end of the day.
What is the best time of year to visit Sigulda?
Autumn (September–October) is exceptional — the Gauja valley turns gold and red. Summer is lush and green. Winter offers snow-covered castles and the bobsled on ice. Spring is quieter and very beautiful.
Is the bobsled experience suitable for everyone?
The wheeled summer bob is suitable for most adults and older children. The winter ice run is more intense. We can advise based on your group when you book.
Are entrance fees included in the price?
No — entrance fees to Turaida Castle, the cable car, and the bobsled are paid separately on the day. We will give you accurate current prices when you book.
Can we combine Sigulda with another destination?
Yes. Cesis medieval town is 35 kilometres further along the Gauja valley and makes an excellent full-day combination. Ask us about the Sigulda + Cesis option.
